I’ve tried everything there is to lose weight. But if you’d be my trainer I’d have no problem feeling insecure enough to take my ass to the gym!

@soysoysoysauce Althought the workout is primarily for gaining explosion in your jumping and sprinting abilities, it can be utilized as a great weight loss program if the recovery periods are manipulated. Tony Thomas-Stay Motivated-

    November 20th, 2010 at 02:54 | #31

@ballerlh2314 I actually worked with a couple of great coaches that had me do my plyometrics first followed by a heavyweights on legs. It was non-traditional but worked. I developed strength in my fast twich muscles which allowed me to be more explosive. I say if it is working for you keep doing it. When you stop getting the results change it up. -Tony Thomas- Stay Motivated-

i do plyometrics along with heavy squats to increase lower body strength. i always get enough rest and seem to be getting very good results. do you think thats a good idea or not?

man you need to get clued up on plyo’s! never do more than 6 reps in a exercise, ever! the focus is on quality not quantity! your lunge into a jump with a 180 turn, sorry not plyometric, the eccentric phase of your movement is 100 times to long. plyometrics require an eccentric contraction of around 0.1 of a second with the whole rep taking around 0.2-0.5 of a sec. happy to answer any questions to help with your next vid and really help you jump high!

plyometrics are not recommended if you have a weight problem, the cut off range is normally 240-280 for plyometrics (pending height) unless you are an elite athlete. Some Kinesiologist will say even if your body fat percentage is in the range of 18-24% for men and 25-31% for females. This is a more accurate measurement. Doing them being overweight and undertrained can result in injury; ligament, tendon, and micro-fractures to bones.

@Redkonvict Plyometric workouts are okay to do with a weight program. I recommend that you do the workout on a day your not doing legs. If you do incorporate the plyometric workout on a leg day try to limit the amount of plyometrics to 2-3 exercises. Tony Thomas-Stay Motivated-

@KnezMish Weighted jumprope is actually the weight of the whole rope and it can be beneficial to your work out because it yields results in both cardiovascular and upperbody strength. Coupling it with the speed rope is a great Idea because arm speed dictates footspeed and visa-versa. heavy ropes are available in 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 pound weights. Tony Thomas -Stay Motivated

Also, since I’m pretty surprised and happy that you are responding to other’s questions I would like to just ask a few quick ones: is a weighted jump rope (the handles have weight, not the actually rope) safe/good to use (maybe even combine it with a speed jump rope)?

@TonythemachineThomas alright thank you Tony that answered my question perfect i will start doing simple polymetric workouts until i am ready for weight room

  49. TonythemachineThomas
    November 20th, 2010 at 12:00 | #49

@IAmTheRealSlimShady1 You are still growing so heavy weights is not recommended. You should stick to the plyometrics, abdominal, speed, and agility video workouts. Supplement your body with adequate protein and do a pushup, pullup, calf raises, and wall squat workout to allow your muscles to develop as you move closer to getting into the weightroom. -Tony Thomas- Stay Motivated-
